Orlando Attorney William Umansky Nominated for Appointment to Ninth Circuit JNC
At the May meeting of the Florida Bar Board of Governors, nominations for vacancies on Judicial Nominating Commissions (JNC) throughout Florida were announced. William Umansky, of the Umansky Law Firm, was nominated to serve on the Ninth Circuit JNC. Nominations are forwarded to Governor Rick Scott, who makes the final decision on appointments to the various JNCs.
A JNC is comprised of nine members, both lawyers and non-lawyers, who review applicants for judicial openings throughout Florida. Each circuit has its own JNC and each member serves a 4-year term.
Five members of each JNC are direct appointments made by the governor; the remaining four seats are filled based on the nominations sent to the Governor by the Florida Bar Board of Governors. The Board must provide three nominations for each vacancy. Bill Umansky, known as ‘The Lawman’ by his peers, practices criminal defense and personal injury law throughout Central Florida, and was one of three Orlando-area attorneys nominated for the Ninth Circuit JNC vacancy.
