Orlando Law Firm Speaks about Dangers Drugs Pose in Response to Festival Incidents
It should not be a surprise that during music festivals, especially festivals featuring new music trends such as Electronica and Dub-Step, attendees regularly participate in rampant drug and alcohol use. One particular drug, commonly known as Molly or MDMA, is a choice for many individuals that plan on “raging” during the music festival. Unfortunately, during New York City’s popular Electric Zoo festival, 2 young adults lost their lives and 4 others were hospitalized because of a possible link to MDMA.
Molly is the shortened term for a molecular composition and is commonly the powder or crystal form of MDMA.
Though individuals claim that MDMA is a means to just have fun in a recreational setting, it is a potentially dangerous substance and has extremely strict drug laws surrounding it. Forms of MDMA that are consumed often times are mixed with other drugs such as cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine. The danger of using this drug is very much prevalent, especially when a specific dosage of the drug is never actually regulated because of its inherent illegality.
Attorney William Umansky, founder of The Umansky Law Firm, has represented individuals in central Florida that have been caught possessing, dealing, and trafficking different forms of MDMA. He and the other lawyers in his firm are well versed with how the DEA considers MDMA to be a Schedule I controlled substance, receiving this designation because of its potential of being a highly addictive and abusive substance.
Other reasons that MDMA is a Schedule I substance is because of the other effects it has on an individual, such as chills, sweating, blurred vision, severe dehydration, and many more adversities.
When asked about the events that transpired at this recent music festival, Attorney William Umansky said, “In Florida, possession of MDMA is a third degree felony. Individuals caught with MDMA have the possibility of facing 5 years in prison, a $5000 fine, and numerous other consequences..”
