Grand Theft Charges – Case Dismissed Before Trial

Case Number: 2024CF002356A000XX
Charges: BURG (CONV) {NO BATTERY/ASSAULT/WEAPON GRAND THEFT OVER $750 LESS THAN $5000 POSS BURGLARY TOOLS WITH INTENT TO USE
County: Polk

Client was falsely accused of sawing off catalytic converters in Polk County after police discovered his fingerprints inside a vehicle linked to the crime scene. The surveillance video, however, clearly showed someone else, and we proved that Client had previously ridden in the same vehicle with the real suspect, accidentally leaving his wallet and I.D. behind. Despite this, investigators failed to look deeper and the prosecutor offered 50 months in prison based solely on Client’s past.

On the morning of trial, after we presented compelling evidence of mistaken identity and an incomplete investigation, the State dismissed all charges. Client avoided prison, cleared his name, and finally felt heard after being ignored by prior counsel. He is now free and no longer defined by his past.
