New Study Shows Occasional Marijuana Use Is Not Bad For The Lungs

One of the hottest topics for debate nowadays is the decriminalization of marijuana. Recent studies have shown that not only is marijuana beneficial to help treat certain health conditions, but it is also a safer alternative to a variety of often deadly pharmaceutical medications. Many states in the U.S. have either decriminalized possession of marijuana, or have legalized its medicinal use, and with a new study that just came out stating that occasional marijuana usage is not detrimental to one’s lungs, it’s about time that new, more realistic laws about marijuana usage should be considered by the government.

According to a study that was released on January 11, 2012, occasional use of marijuana is not harmful to the lungs. According to this new discovery, lighting up a joint or taking a few hits off a bong a few times a month will not cause any serious damage to the pot smoker’s lungs. When compared to cigarettes, a legal and far more deadly form of smoking, the damage done to lungs from smoking weed is almost non-existent when used in moderation.

This study, along with past studies that show marijuana has good medicinal qualities that help diminish the pain and symptoms of certain medical conditions like MS and cancer, further goes to prove that the decriminalization of marijuana is a topic that needs to be more seriously addressed by the U.S. government. What do you think? Do you believe that if far more harmful and deadly substances like alcohol and tobacco are legal for adults to indulge in, that marijuana should be legal, as well?

After this new study proving that the occasional use of marijuana is not damaging to one’s lungs, do you think that marijuana should be made legal? Or do you believe, regardless of this new study, that marijuana is a gateway drug that can lead to the use of harder drugs?
