Oktoberfest and Drunk-Driving

The leaves are changing colors, the air is crisp; autumn has arrived. The holiday season is just around the corner, and October provides a little taste of the festivities ahead in the guise of Oktoberfests. The German American Society of Central Florida wasted no time having their first festival on October 1, 2011. Oktoberfest is always a fun time, with hot bratwurst and strong German beers, lively polka music and the infectious chicken dance. We hope you will go out and enjoy this fall-time favorite festival, but if you plan to fully enjoy the ales, make sure to arrange for a designated driver or a taxi to drive you home at the end of the night. Don’t even think about drinking and driving because DUI patrols will be out in full-force looking for drunk-drivers on Oktoberfest nights in Central Florida including Orlando, Winter Park, Sanford, Longwood, Kissimmee, Altamonte Springs and Windermere.

It is our hope that you will enjoy Oktoberfest and the upcoming holiday season, being responsible enough not to get behind the wheel after drinking. Remember to look out for your friends as well, and consider teaming up with them to assign a designated driver for party nights. A little bit of planning can go a long way toward preventing accidents, injuries and legal consequences.

If this advice is a little too late and you’ve recently been arrested for drunk-driving, you are undoubtedly concerned about what lies ahead. You are possibly looking at some serious consequences. Depending on your previous driving record, you may have your license suspended or revoked, have an ignition interlock device installed in your vehicle, be given substantial fines and even serve jail time. Obtaining legal counsel from a local attorney who is well versed in this area of the law will provide you a certain comfort level during an uncertain time. Please stay safe and try to avoid drinking impaired and driving this October Season!
