Law enforcement officers handle drug-related cases every day. Here in Central Florida, local residents are aware that police officers and other law enforcement officers use different methods in gathering reports of possible drug activities. These reports are usually validated and thoroughly investigated to acquire substantial evidence against the accused person. Once police have gathered sufficient evidence, they issue a warrant that can lead to a person’s arrest on drug charges in Orlando. But, a person arrested on drug charges has the right to establish a defense to fight the charges.

In Edgewater, Florida, a young boy’s confession led to his mother’s arrest on drug-related offenses. Based on a report, a 7-year-old boy told his uncle that his mother was cooking ‘something’ in the car. The child reportedly asked his uncle to come with him and showed what was inside the car’s trunk. The adult male saw what was inside the trunk and he immediately called 911. Police arrived at the scene and discovered drug paraphernalia inside the trunk. The 26-year-old mother of the child was apprehended on drug possession, manufacturing, delivery of meth and child neglect.

Anyone facing similar charges should know the nature of the charges before considering their next option. For example, if they were charged with a misdemeanor drug possession, it means that the charge could be relatively minor. However, if a person is charged with a drug trafficking offense, it means that the charge is more severe and can lead to stiff fines and possibly a prison sentence.
