Don’t Get Gobbled Up in a DUI Checkpoint This Thanksgiving
According to the Orlando Sentinel, FHP troopers will be on duty this holiday on a mission to catch Thanksgiving drivers who are speeding to and from their destination. In Orlando, Florida Highway Patrol officers will set up a speed enforcement checkpoints in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 4 just north of Lee Road. FHP pilots will fly in the air tracking the speed of cars and trucks and motorists will be pulled over for speeding and other violations.
FHP will move their operation to Volusia County on Friday and in Osceola County in Kissimmee on Saturday. According to the Sentinel, Florida Highway Patrol is trying to cut down on the number of traffic related fatalities that have occurred over the past few years.
Florida drivers who are caught speeding over the Thanksgiving holidays are subject to tickets, stiff fines, possible license suspension due to points, and in some cases mandatory court appearances. Drivers who get stopped for speeding but are suspected of drinking alcohol could get arrested for DUI. DUI’s, out of all of the other traffic violations and criminal offenses you can commit while behind the wheel, could have the biggest impact on your future. If you’re planning on spending time with family drinking and talking about cherished childhood memories, be sure to arrange for a taxi on the way back or find a comfortable couch to sleep on until you are ready to depart.
Remember to drive carefully this Thanksgiving and be very aware of the speed traps around Orlando, Orange County, Volusia County and Osceola County this holiday weekend!
